Hasbro showed some more love for Sandtroopers and released this incredible Dewback set. The Dewback Rider Sandtrooper is almost identical to other Black Series Stormtroopers that have been previously released. He/she has the same articulation, backpack, and pauldron shape that others have. The weathering is a little different.
The Dewback is loaded with detail, and its heavy. It too has articulation on the legs, feet, and mouth. The Sandtrooper sits comfortably atop the Dewback, there aren’t any issues with balance. It is a stunning piece and a fine addition to your Black Series collection. I picked mine up on Amazon.
I did have to make one small modification. It is my understanding that the Dewback rider in A New Hope is wearing a white pauldron…not a gray pauldron. Not to worry, its an easy fix 🙂 If you’ve seen my other post about the orange pauldron hack, the following steps will look familiar.
The first step is to remove the Sandtrooper’s head. When I last did this for the black pauldron trooper, it was MUCH easier to remove the head. This trooper was more difficult. Use extreme caution when removing this little guy’s head.
I masked the pauldron off with masking tape and HandiTak:
Its a little too white, so I added some Tamiya Weathering Master pastels to make it a little dirtier:
