Hasbro Black Series Stormtrooper 09 Review
I have always been a big fan of Stormtroopers. I love the opening scene of Episode IV: A New Hope, when Darth Vader’s Star Destroyer overtakes the Tantive IV Corellian Corvette, and the Stormtroopers blast their way through ship. Their armor, while not very effective, looks pretty damn cool.
I got hooked on photographing my Lego Stormtroopers in various locations and funny poses. Legos are great, but they are a bit limited in their movement. I saw some advertisements for Hasbro’s Black Series Star Wars figures in a few comic books. I was definitely intrigued and excited about a new photo subject. My first Black Series figure was Stormtrooper 09, purchased from Amazon. This figure is one of the phase 1 figures. Phase 1 figures can be recognized by orange markings on the box. Stormtrooper 09 was the 3rd wave of phase 1 figures released in the Spring of 2014.
The figure stands at 6 inches tall & comes with 2 weapons: a standard Stormtrooper blaster, and a rifle. The armor has a nice sheen to it. Its not overly shiny, but also not dull. The printed impressions on the helmet are crisp and detailed. They obviously were not hand painted. The blue “vents” printed on the sides of the helmet are nice and straight. The trooper has many points of articulation, which makes him capable of some terrific poses. The trooper has movement at the head, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hip, thighs, knees, and ankles. The wrist and ankle movements are particularly helpful for positioning weapons and helping the figure achieve balance.
This trooper is a terrific photo subject. The poses are unlimited. These are a few images that I snapped after opening the box. I hope to get this guy outside for some realistic battle poses, and maybe also a few funny shots. While he’s not being photographed, he stands proud on my wall shelf, watching over my other action figures. Not only does this figure look great, but it is also at a nice price point. Stormtrooper 09 can be had for around $20. Many of the other Black Series figures are double…or more. These photos make great backgrounds for your iPhone or Android device!
