Lego Star Wars Dogfight!
In addition to news about “The Force Awakens”, there has been some talk about making a sequel to Top Gun. Fresh from our stop-motion animation debut, and after hearing about Top Gun 2, my daughter and I were inspired to make another Star Wars Lego film…this time focusing on aerial combat!
We broke out our Lego Microfighters once again and got to work. As you will see, this film is not stop-motion (except for the last 30 seconds). I “borrowed” some footage from National Geographic’s “Journey to the Edge of the Universe“. I found a few sequences that would work with the Lego fighters. Some were time-lapsed and/or reversed. After compiling a few good clips, I took some stills of my Microfighters at different angles, and then saved them as transparent png files in Photoshop. My daughter learned how to use Photoshop’s magnetic lasso to cut out the different starfighters. With the Nat Geo footage and stills of the fighters, I used Apple Motion 5 to create…you guessed it…motion. I added some lasers and particle emitters for effects.
My daughter and I got to work together again and work in a different department of the animation department: voice overs.
